Chapter 1 — “I’m Done Wearing This!”
The atmosphere inside Larry’s house had already been tense for several minutes.
Bethany stood across from Larry with tears in her eyes and frustration written all over her face. She had been listening to Larry explain himself, but every word seemed to make her even more upset.
“You keep saying everything is going to be okay,” Bethany said angrily. “But when is anything actually going to change?”
Larry took a deep breath.
“Bethany, I’m trying to explain—”
“No!” she interrupted. “I’ve heard enough.”
Everyone in the room suddenly became silent.
Bethany looked down at her wedding ring.
For several seconds, she simply stared at it.
Then, with trembling hands, she slowly pulled it from her finger.
Larry's expression immediately changed.
Bethany held the ring in her palm.
“I can't keep pretending everything is fine.”

“You already had divorce papers?”
Larry nodded slowly.
“I've had them for a while.”
Bethany stared at him in disbelief.
“And you were just waiting for this moment?”
Larry shook his head.
“No. That's not what happened.”
“Then explain it!”
Larry hesitated.
“I didn't know whether I was actually going to give them to you.”
Bethany looked at the papers again.
“So you were planning to end our marriage behind my back?”
“I was trying to figure out what was best.”
Bethany laughed bitterly.
“What was best for YOU?”
Larry didn't respond.
Brooke picked up the envelope but didn't open it.
“Dad, why would you keep this from everybody?”
Larry looked at her.
“Because I wasn't sure I could go through with it.”
Bethany's eyes filled with tears again.
“Then why bring them out now?”
Larry looked directly at her.
“Because when you took your ring off, I realized we couldn't keep pretending anymore.”
That sentence hit Bethany harder than anything else.
She slowly sat down.
Chapter 4 — Brooke Refuses to Stay Quiet
Brooke couldn't handle watching her family fall apart.
She stepped between Larry and Bethany.
“Both of you need to stop.”
Larry looked at her.
“Brooke, this is between me and Bethany.”
“No,” Brooke replied. “It stopped being private the second you put those papers on the table.”
Bethany remained silent.
Brooke turned toward her.
“Mom, are you really ready to sign them?”
Bethany looked at the envelope.
“I don't know.”
Larry immediately said, “You don't have to sign anything tonight.”
Bethany looked up.
“Then why did you bring them?”
Larry didn't have an answer.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated.
He looked at the screen.
His expression became serious.
Brooke noticed.
“Who is that?”

“Nobody.”

Chapter 5 — The Mysterious Message
Bethany stood up immediately.
“Who sent that?”
Larry remained silent.
“Larry!”
“I don't know.”
Bethany looked at Brooke.
Brooke stepped closer to Larry.
“Let me see the message.”
Larry hesitated before showing them the phone.
The message continued:
“If Bethany signs those papers tonight, you'll never discover why the divorce was really arranged.”
Everyone froze.

“Arranged?”

“What does that mean?”
A second message arrived.
“Check the date on the divorce papers.”
Brooke grabbed the envelope.

Bethany slowly looked at Larry.
“Who did you meet?”

“It was weeks ago. I had meetings all over the place.”
Bethany became increasingly suspicious.
Then Larry suddenly remembered something.
“There was a man.”
Brooke asked, “Who?”
“I don't know his name.”
Bethany frowned.
“What did he want?”
Larry took a deep breath.
“He told me someone was trying to interfere with my family.”
The room went silent.
Bethany looked at the divorce papers.

Chapter 7 — “The Divorce Was Never the Real Secret”
Larry sat down.
“I thought getting separated would protect everyone.”
Bethany stared at him.
“Protect us from what?”
Larry didn't answer immediately.
“I was getting messages.”
“What kind of messages?”
“Warnings.”
Bethany's eyes widened.
“Why didn't you tell me?”
“Because I didn't know who to trust.”
Brooke stepped closer.
“So you thought divorcing Mom would solve everything?”
Larry shook his head.
“No. I thought creating distance might stop whoever was interfering.”

“You could've talked to me.”

The stranger didn't say a word.

Larry stood up.
“Who are you?”

“To who?” Bethany asked.
The stranger looked directly at her.
“To Bethany.”
Bethany hesitated.
She slowly opened the envelope.

“The divorce papers were never supposed to be the ending.”
Bethany looked confused.
Then she found another photograph.
This one showed Larry, Bethany, and another person together at an old event.
Bethany recognized the person immediately.

He answered.

Larry put the call on speaker.
Bethany stood beside him.
“Who are you?” Larry demanded.
The voice laughed quietly.

“Understand what?”
“The divorce papers weren't meant to separate you.”
Bethany looked confused.
“Then what were they for?”
The voice paused.
“They were supposed to make you look in the wrong direction.”

Brooke whispered:

The caller continued:
“You've been looking at each other for months.”
Larry clenched his fist.
“Tell me who you are!”
But the caller ignored him.

“Now you finally know where to start.”
Bethany looked at Larry.
Larry looked at Bethany.
Their divorce papers remained unopened on the table.
Their wedding rings were back in their hands.
But now the question wasn't whether they would get divorced.
