Chapter 1 — The News Brooke Never Wanted to Hear
Brooke had been waiting all morning for Isaiah to call.
She kept checking her phone, hoping his name would appear on the screen. She had convinced herself that today would be different. Maybe Isaiah would finally explain everything. Maybe he would tell her that he still cared. Maybe the distance between them could finally disappear.
Then her phone buzzed.
It was a message from Isaiah.
“Brooke, I’m leaving for Philly.”
Brooke stared at the screen.
She immediately called him.
“Isaiah, what do you mean you're leaving?”
There was silence on the other end.
“I have some things I need to handle in Philly.”
Brooke's voice became shaky.
“When are you coming back?”
“I don't know.”
That answer crushed her.
“You don't know?”
Isaiah sighed.
“I just need some space.”
Brooke slowly sat down.
“But you promised we'd talk.”
“I know.”
“And now you're leaving?”
“I’m sorry, Brooke.”
The call ended.
Brooke stared at her phone with tears forming in her eyes.
She whispered:
“I can't believe he actually left me behind.”
Chapter 2 — Brooke Breaks Down
Bethany found Brooke sitting alone in her room.
The curtains were closed, and Brooke hadn't touched the food Bethany had left for her.
Bethany knocked softly.
“Brooke?”
No answer.
She opened the door.
Brooke was sitting on the edge of her bed, staring at Isaiah's last message.
Bethany immediately knew something was wrong.
“He left,” Brooke whispered.
“Who?”
“Isaiah.”
Bethany sat beside her.
“He went to Philly.”
Brooke wiped her tears.
“He didn't even wait for me.”
Bethany gently put an arm around her.
“I'm sorry.”
Brooke shook her head.
“I thought I mattered to him.”
“You do matter.”
“Then why does it feel like I don't?”
Bethany didn't have an easy answer.
Brooke finally let herself cry.
“I would've gone with him.”
Bethany looked at her.
“I know.”
“I would've supported him.”
“I know.”
“Then why didn't he ask me?”
Bethany hugged her.
Sometimes, there was nothing a mother could say to make heartbreak disappear.
Chapter 3 — Larry Gets Angry
When Larry heard what happened, his reaction was immediate.
“Isaiah left for Philly without even talking to Brooke?”
Bethany nodded.
Larry shook his head.
“That boy needs to understand that people's feelings aren't something you just walk away from.”
Brooke overheard him.
“Dad, don't.”
Larry turned toward her.
“Don't what?”
“Don't make him the bad guy.”
Larry looked surprised.
“You're defending him?”
Brooke looked down.
“I still love him.”
Larry's expression softened.
“But loving somebody doesn't mean you have to keep chasing them.”
Brooke wiped her eyes.
“I just wanted him to choose me.”
Larry walked over and hugged her.
“You shouldn't have to beg somebody to choose you.”
Those words stayed with Brooke.
For the first time, she wondered whether she had been fighting for a relationship that Isaiah had already stopped fighting for.
Chapter 4 — The Picture That Changed Everything
That evening, Brooke was scrolling through social media when she suddenly stopped.
A picture of Isaiah had been posted.
He was in Philly.
And he wasn't alone.
Brooke's heart dropped.
She zoomed in.
There was another person standing beside him.
Brooke immediately called Isaiah.
No answer.
She called again.
Still nothing.
She ran downstairs.
“Mom!”
Bethany rushed toward her.
“What happened?”
Brooke showed her the picture.
Bethany's expression changed.
“Are you sure that's Isaiah?”
“Yes.”
Larry came over.
“What are we looking at?”
Brooke pointed at the screen.
“He told me he needed space.”
Larry stared at the picture.
“And now he's in Philly with someone else?”
Brooke's eyes filled with tears.
“I knew it.”
Bethany grabbed her hand.
“Brooke, don't assume anything yet.”
But Brooke had already made up her mind.
“He left me because of her.”
Chapter 5 — Brooke Makes a Decision
The next morning, Brooke walked downstairs carrying a suitcase.
Larry looked at her.
“What's that?”
“I'm going to Philly.”
Bethany immediately stood up.
“Brooke…”
“I need answers.”
Larry shook his head.
“Not like this.”
“I can't sit here anymore.”
“You're emotional.”
“Yes, Dad! Because my heart is broken!”
The room went silent.
Brooke continued.
“I need to hear the truth from Isaiah himself.”
Bethany looked at Larry.
Larry took a deep breath.
“Fine.”
Brooke looked surprised.
“Really?”
Larry nodded.
“But we're coming with you.”
Brooke didn't argue.
She simply nodded.
For the first time since Isaiah left, she felt like she wasn't completely alone.
But none of them knew what awaited them in Philly.
Chapter 6 — Isaiah's Secret
When they arrived in Philly, Brooke expected to find Isaiah immediately.
Instead, they received a message.
“Don't come to my apartment.”
Brooke stared at it.
“What?”
Another message appeared.
“There's something you need to know first.”
Brooke's hands began shaking.
“Isaiah, what are you doing?”
Then a location appeared.
Larry looked at the address.
“This isn't where Isaiah lives.”
Bethany looked concerned.
“Who sent it?”
Brooke shook her head.
“I don't know.”
They followed the location.
When they arrived, Isaiah was standing outside.
Brooke immediately walked toward him.
“You left me.”
Isaiah looked down.
“I know.”
“You ignored my calls.”
“I know.”
“You told me you needed space.”
“I did.”
Brooke pointed toward him.
“Then who was that woman in the picture?”
Isaiah finally looked at her.
“She isn't who you think she is.”
Brooke laughed bitterly.
“That's what everybody says when they get caught.”
Isaiah shook his head.
“No, Brooke. You don't understand.”
He pulled a folder from his bag.
“There's a reason I came to Philly.”
Chapter 7 — The Truth Hurts Even More
Isaiah handed Brooke the folder.
She opened it.
Inside were documents and messages.
Brooke read them carefully.
Her expression slowly changed.
“You came here because of this?”
Isaiah nodded.
“I found out somebody had been sending messages to both of us.”
Brooke looked at him.
“Who?”
“I don't know yet.”
“Then why didn't you tell me?”
“Because I didn't want you involved.”
Brooke's eyes filled with tears again.
“You made that decision for me.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
“You hurt me instead!”
Isaiah lowered his head.
“I know.”
Brooke turned away.
“You could've trusted me.”
Isaiah's voice became quiet.
“I was scared.”
“Of what?”
“Of losing you.”
Brooke looked back at him.
“You already did.”
Isaiah froze.
For the first time, Brooke wasn't crying because she wanted him back.
She was crying because she realized how much the situation had changed her.
Chapter 8 — Brooke's Devastating Turn
Brooke stepped away from Isaiah.
Larry and Bethany watched from a distance.
Brooke wiped her face.
“I came all the way here thinking I needed you to explain yourself.”
Isaiah looked at her.
“And?”
Brooke took a deep breath.
“I realized something.”
“What?”
“I don't need to chase you anymore.”
Isaiah looked shocked.
“Brooke…”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“I love you. I won't lie about that.”
Isaiah looked hopeful.
“But love doesn't mean I have to accept being pushed away.”
His expression fell.
Brooke continued.
“You left me behind.”
“I know.”
“And I spent days wondering what I did wrong.”
“You didn't do anything.”
“Then why did you make me feel like I wasn't important?”
Isaiah couldn't answer.
Brooke nodded through her tears.
“That silence is my answer.”
She turned around and walked toward Larry and Bethany.
Isaiah remained standing there.
For the first time, Brooke wasn't begging him to stay.
She was choosing herself.
Chapter 9 — The Call Nobody Expected
As they were preparing to leave, Brooke's phone suddenly rang.
It was an unknown number.
She answered cautiously.
“Hello?”
A voice whispered:
“Brooke…”
She froze.
“Who is this?”
“You need to stop blaming Isaiah.”
Brooke looked at Larry.
“Who are you?”
The person continued:
“Isaiah didn't leave you because he wanted to.”
Brooke's eyes widened.
“What are you talking about?”
“There are things you don't know.”
“Tell me!”
The call suddenly ended.
Brooke stared at the phone.
Larry immediately asked:
“What happened?”
Brooke explained everything.
Bethany looked concerned.
“Someone knows more than they're telling us.”
Isaiah walked toward them.
“What did they say?”
Brooke looked at him.
“They said you didn't leave because you wanted to.”
Isaiah's face changed.
Then he whispered:
“I know who that might be.”
Everyone looked at him.
“Who?”
Isaiah hesitated.
“I thought they were gone.”
Chapter 10 — Brooke's Heartbreak Takes a Devastating Turn
The four of them stood there in silence.
Brooke looked at Isaiah.
“You know who did this?”
Isaiah nodded slowly.
“I think so.”
“Who?”
Before Isaiah could answer, a car pulled up nearby.
Everyone turned.
The door opened.
A familiar person stepped out.
Brooke's face immediately went pale.
“No…”
Bethany grabbed her arm.
“What is it?”
Brooke couldn't speak.
She recognized the person.
The same person who had been appearing in the background of the pictures.
The same person who may have been sending the messages.
The same person who knew exactly how to keep Brooke and Isaiah apart.
Larry stepped forward.
“Who are you?”
The person smiled.
“I think it's time you all knew the truth.”
Brooke looked at Isaiah.
“You knew this person?”
Isaiah nodded.
“But I never thought they'd come back.”
Brooke's heart sank.
She had traveled all the way to Philly believing her heartbreak was about Isaiah leaving her.
Now she was realizing something much worse:
Someone may have deliberately destroyed their relationship.
The stranger reached into their bag and pulled out an old photograph.
“Brooke…”
They held it out.
“This is where everything started.”
Brooke stared at the photograph.
Her eyes widened.
Because standing beside Isaiah in the picture…
was someone from her own family.
