Chapter 1 — Brooke Suddenly Leaves the Office 😳
The day at the office had started normally, but something about Brooke seemed completely different. She had barely spoken to anyone, and every time somebody asked if she was okay, she quickly changed the subject.
Bethany noticed it immediately.
Brooke was sitting quietly at her desk when she suddenly looked down at her phone. Her expression changed.
“Brooke?” Bethany asked. “What happened?”
“Nothing,” Brooke replied quickly.
But Bethany didn't believe her.
Charlotte, who had been standing nearby, exchanged a worried look with Bethany. The two women clearly seemed to know something, but neither of them said a word.
A few minutes later, Brooke stood up.
“I need to leave.”
“Where are you going?” Charlotte asked.
“Home.”
Brooke grabbed her bag and walked out.
Bethany watched her disappear through the door.

But before she could say a word, someone knocked on the doctor's office door.
Everyone turned.
A man stood outside holding a sealed envelope.
He looked directly at Bethany.
“I think it's time she knows the whole story.”
Brooke stared at Bethany in shock.
Larry stepped forward.
“What story?”
The man held up the envelope.
“The story about what happened before Brooke ever left that office.”
