Larry scheduled what everyone believed would be a routine medical checkup for Brooke and Destiny.
"It won't take long," Larry said as they arrived at the clinic.
Brooke smiled.

During the appointment, the doctor mentioned that an old family medical record was incomplete.
"To update the file, we'd recommend a DNA test," the doctor explained.
Larry looked at Brooke and Destiny.

Larry laughed.

Larry immediately sensed something was unusual.
"Can you tell me what's wrong?"
"I'm sorry," the doctor replied.

Larry's heart began racing.

Larry, Brooke, and Destiny sat quietly in the doctor's office.
The doctor placed the sealed report on the desk.
"There are findings that raise questions about one of the historical family records."
The room fell silent.
Brooke slowly asked,
"What does that mean?"
The doctor carefully explained that the report indicated there could be an error in the existing records and recommended additional testing before drawing any conclusions.

Brooke looked at Larry.
"Dad... what's going on?"
Larry was just as confused.
"I don't know."
Destiny reached over and held Brooke's hand.
"We'll figure this out together."
The uncertainty weighed heavily on everyone.

After Larry called her, Bethany rushed to the clinic.
She immediately noticed the worried expressions.
"What happened?"
Larry handed her the report.
"The doctors want more testing before anyone jumps to conclusions."
Bethany nodded.
"Then that's exactly what we'll do."

The family agreed not to speculate or accuse anyone until the follow-up tests were complete.
Larry looked at Brooke.
"No matter what these papers say, you're family."
Brooke hugged him tightly.
"I needed to hear that."
Chapter 9: A New Appointment
Before they left, the doctor scheduled another appointment.
"We'll review everything carefully and answer all of your questions."
Although everyone was still anxious, they felt better knowing they would soon have clearer information.
Larry reminded the family,
"We'll face the truth together."

As they walked toward the parking lot, Larry received another call from the clinic.
"We found one more document connected to the case."
Larry stopped walking.
"What kind of document?"
"It may explain why the original records don't match."
Larry slowly lowered the phone.
Bethany looked at him nervously.
"What is it?"
Larry took a deep breath.
"I think we're about to learn a secret that's been hidden for years."
