Brooke had officially reached her breaking point. For days, Larry had been talking about college nonstop—packing her bags, checking the car, discussing her schedule, and reminding her that she needed to be ready to leave. Brooke was tired of hearing about it.

Finally, she snapped.

“I’m not going to college!” Brooke said, throwing her hands up. “I’ve made up my mind!”

Larry couldn't believe what he was hearing. He tried to reason with her, but Brooke refused to listen. Later that night, when everyone thought she had gone to bed, Brooke quietly packed a few things into a bag.

She slowly opened her bedroom door and tiptoed through the house. The hallway was dark and quiet. Brooke thought she had finally made it.

She reached the gallery door and carefully opened it, ready to slip outside.

But just as she stepped through, a voice came from behind her.

“Brooke?”

Brooke froze.

She slowly turned around and saw Bethany standing several feet away, staring at her.

“What are you doing?” Bethany asked.

Brooke tried to act innocent, but the bag in her hand gave everything away.

“I was just… going outside,” Brooke nervously replied.

Bethany shook her head. “At this hour? With a packed bag?”

Brooke realized she had been caught. She had been so focused on escaping Larry's constant college talk that she never noticed Bethany watching her.

Now she had to explain exactly where she was going—and why she was trying to sneak out of the house.
