Before leaving, Bethany sent a quick text.
"I'll be there in twenty minutes. Don't order without me!"
Brooke replied with a laughing emoji.
Bethany climbed into her car, turned on her favorite playlist, and pulled onto the road.
She had no idea that within minutes, her life would change forever.
Traffic was light, and everything seemed peaceful until she approached a busy intersection. As the light turned green, Bethany slowly drove forward.

A speeding SUV ignored the red light.
Bethany barely had time to scream.

Brooke and Destiny immediately stood.
"How is she?"
The doctor offered a reassuring smile.

Both girls let out a sigh of relief.

Destiny covered her face as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Can we see her?"

The three friends laughed through their tears.

The next morning, another doctor visited Bethany.
"I'm going to be honest with you," he said gently.

He explained that surgery had gone well, but her broken leg would require weeks in a cast followed by months of physical therapy.
Bethany looked down at her bandaged leg.

Dancing.
Traveling.
Now even standing would be difficult.
