Larry Went to Bethany's House to Apologize, but Bethany Refused to Forgive Him and Told Him to Leave Her House
The sun was beginning to set as Larry sat alone in his car, staring at Bethany's house from across the street. For weeks, he had been carrying the weight of guilt on his shoulders. Ever since their painful separation, he couldn't stop thinking about everything that had happened between them.
Larry knew he had made mistakes.
He replayed every argument, every harsh word, and every moment he had taken Bethany for granted. The more he thought about it, the more he realized how much pain he had caused her.
After taking a deep breath, Larry stepped out of the car and slowly walked toward the front door.
Inside the house, Bethany was sitting on the couch reading a book when she heard a knock.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
She frowned.
"Who could that be?" she wondered.
When she opened the door, her eyes widened in shock.
"Larry?"
Larry nervously smiled.
"Hey, Bethany."
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
Finally Larry cleared his throat.
"Can we talk?"
Bethany crossed her arms.
"What do you want, Larry?"
"I just want a few minutes."
Reluctantly, Bethany stepped aside and allowed him inside.
Larry walked into the living room and looked around. So much had changed since the last time he had been there.
Bethany remained standing.
"Say what you came to say."
Larry nodded.
"Bethany... I came to apologize."
She stared at him silently.
Larry continued.
"I know I hurt you. I know I said things I should never have said. I know I wasn't the person you deserved."
Bethany's expression didn't change.
"I've spent weeks thinking about everything. And honestly... I was wrong."
Larry looked down.
"I'm sorry."
The room became quiet.
Bethany slowly sat down and shook her head.
"You think one apology fixes everything?"
Larry sighed.
"No. But I wanted you to know I mean it."
Bethany laughed bitterly.
"Mean it?"
Her voice started rising.
"Where was that sincerity when I needed it, Larry?"
Larry looked away.
"Bethany—"
"No."
She stood up.
"You don't get to come here and act like everything is okay."
Larry could see tears forming in her eyes.
"For months I cried because of what you did."
Bethany pointed toward the door.
"You embarrassed me. You disrespected me. You made me feel like I didn't matter."
Larry's face filled with regret.
"I know."
"No, you don't know."
Bethany's voice cracked.
"You have no idea how hard it was picking up the pieces after everything happened."
Larry stepped forward.
"I never wanted to hurt you."
"But you did."
The words hit Larry like a punch.
Bethany wiped her eyes.
"You only came here because now you're feeling guilty."
Larry froze.
Part of him knew she was right.
Bethany shook her head.
"You can't erase what happened."
Larry looked heartbroken.
"So that's it?"
Bethany nodded.
"That's it."
Larry's eyes filled with disappointment.
"I was hoping maybe one day we could move past this."
Bethany looked directly at him.
"I already moved past it."
Larry felt his stomach drop.
The words hurt more than anything she had said before.
For a moment, he stood there speechless.
Then Bethany walked to the front door and opened it.
"Larry..."
Her voice was calm now.
"I appreciate the apology."
Larry looked hopeful for a second.
But then she continued.
"That doesn't mean I forgive you."
The hope instantly disappeared from his face.
Bethany pointed outside.
"You need to leave."
Larry stared at her.
"Bethany..."
"Please leave."
The silence between them felt endless.
Finally Larry nodded.
"I understand."
Slowly, he walked toward the door.
Before stepping outside, he turned around one last time.
"I truly am sorry."
Bethany didn't answer.
She simply stood there.
Larry lowered his head and walked away.
As he reached his car, he glanced back at the house one final time.
The door closed.
Inside, Bethany leaned against it and took a deep breath.
A few tears rolled down her cheeks, but this time they weren't tears of sadness.
They were tears of closure.
For the first time in a long time, she felt free.
Outside, Larry drove away knowing that some mistakes can't be undone and some apologies arrive far too late.
And as Bethany looked out the window watching his car disappear down the street, she quietly whispered:
"Goodbye, Larry."
