The hospital hallways were silent except for the sound of rushing nurses and the beeping of machines coming from nearby rooms. Larry stepped through the front doors with fear written all over his face. His hands were shaking as he hurried toward the front desk, desperate to get information about Bethany.

Just a few hours earlier, he had received a terrifying phone call saying Bethany had suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Since then, Larry’s mind had been racing nonstop. He ignored every argument they’d been having lately and drove across the city as fast as he could.

“Bethany Johnson… what room is she in?” Larry asked nervously.

Before the receptionist could answer, a loud voice exploded across the hallway.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”

Larry slowly turned around — and instantly froze.

Standing near the waiting area was Bethany’s father, Mr. Johnson, with pure anger burning in his eyes. His fists tightened the moment he saw Larry standing there.

“Sir… I just came to see if Bethany is okay,” Larry said quietly.

But Bethany’s father wasn’t trying to hear anything.

“You got a lot of nerve showing up here after everything you put my daughter through!” he yelled, causing everyone nearby to stare.

Larry tried to stay calm. “Please, I just want to talk to her.”

“Talk?!” Mr. Johnson shouted. “Every time you come around, my daughter ends up hurt, crying, or stressed out! Now she’s laying in a hospital bed because of all this drama!”

Larry looked down at the floor, unable to defend himself. Deep inside, guilt was eating him alive.

“I never wanted this to happen,” Larry whispered.

But the moment Larry tried to walk toward Bethany’s room, her father snapped completely.

He stormed across the hallway, grabbed Larry by the jacket, and shoved him backward.

“I SAID GET OUT!” he screamed.

People in the waiting room gasped as Larry stumbled into a chair. Nurses quickly rushed over, trying to calm the situation before security arrived.

“Sir, please calm down,” one nurse pleaded.

But Bethany’s father pointed directly at Larry with rage in his eyes.

“He’s not seeing my daughter. Not today. Not ever again!”

Larry slowly stood back up, embarrassed as everyone watched the painful scene unfold. For a moment, it looked like he wanted to fight back — but instead, he stayed silent.

“Dad… stop…”

“Please… stop fighting,” she whispered painfully.

The hallway became completely silent.

“I’m sorry,” Larry finally said. “For everything.”
