Larry had just returned home after a long stressful day. The house was unusually quiet, and Bethany kept pacing near the living room window with nervous energy. Every few seconds she checked her phone, then glanced toward the front door. Larry noticed her acting strange the moment he walked in.

“Bethany… what’s going on?” he asked, placing his keys on the table.

Bethany forced a smile. “Nothing… I’m just waiting on someone.”

Before Larry could ask another question, the doorbell suddenly rang.

DING DONG. 

Bethany froze for a second, then quickly rushed to the door. Standing outside was a lady doctor holding a large yellow medical envelope and a clipboard in her hand.

“Good evening, Bethany,” the doctor said gently. “I got the second test results back faster than expected.”

Larry’s face immediately changed.

“Second test results?” he repeated in confusion. “What second test?”

Bethany looked down nervously while the doctor stepped inside the house.

“Larry,” Bethany whispered, “I didn’t want to tell you until I was sure.”

Now Larry’s heart started racing. A thousand thoughts rushed through his mind at once. Was Bethany seriously sick? Had she been hiding something from him this whole time?

The doctor carefully opened the envelope while Bethany stood beside Larry, holding his arm tightly.

“I think both of you should sit down,” the doctor said softly.

Larry swallowed hard. “Doctor… just tell me what’s going on.”

The doctor smiled warmly before pulling out the report.

“Well… the first test showed uncertain results,” she explained. “That’s why I recommended another medical test immediately.”

Larry looked even more worried. “Uncertain about WHAT?”

Bethany’s eyes started filling with tears as she looked at him.

The doctor finally handed over the report.

“Congratulations,” she said with a huge smile. “Bethany is pregnant.” 

For a moment the entire room went silent.

Larry stared at the paper in complete shock. His mouth dropped open and he couldn’t even speak. Bethany covered her face as tears rolled down her cheeks.

“No way…” Larry whispered. “Are you serious?”

The doctor nodded happily. “The second report confirmed everything. And from the results, both mother and baby are healthy.”

Bethany started crying harder, but this time they were happy tears. Larry looked at her, still frozen in disbelief.

“You mean… we’re having a baby?”

Bethany nodded slowly. “I wanted to surprise you when I knew for sure.”

Larry suddenly pulled her into a tight hug.

“Oh my God… Bethany…” he said emotionally. “You just changed my whole life.”

The doctor smiled while watching them celebrate near the front door.

But just when everyone thought the emotional moment was over… the doctor cleared her throat again.

“There’s actually one more thing,” she said.

Larry and Bethany both turned around nervously.

The doctor laughed softly. “Relax. It’s good news.”

She handed Bethany another small paper from the envelope.

“According to the scan,” the doctor continued, “there’s a strong chance it might be twins.” 

Larry nearly fell back onto the couch.

“TWINS?!” he shouted.

Bethany screamed in shock and excitement while Larry held his head in disbelief.

“This can’t be happening!” he laughed. “First one baby… now TWO?!”

The doctor laughed along with them. “We’ll know for sure after the next appointment, but the signs are definitely there.”

Larry suddenly dropped to his knees dramatically.

“Lord help me,” he joked while Bethany laughed through tears. “My life is officially over.”

Bethany playfully smacked his shoulder. “Boy, get up!”

The doctor gathered her papers and headed toward the door while the couple continued celebrating.

As she left, Larry looked at Bethany with tears in his eyes.

“I swear,” he said softly, “this is the happiest shock of my life.”
