The house was completely silent except for the sound of Bethany’s suitcase wheels rolling across the floor. She stood near the front door wearing a gray hoodie, her eyes swollen from crying for hours. Larry was upstairs packing the last of his clothes into a black designer duffel bag, preparing for a weekend trip to Las Vegas with his friends.

But this wasn’t just any trip.

To Bethany, it felt like the moment her marriage was falling apart.

“Larry… please,” she whispered as he came downstairs holding his car keys. “Don’t go without me.”

Larry didn’t answer at first. His jaw tightened as he walked past her toward the kitchen counter. He grabbed his sunglasses and phone charger without even looking in her direction.

Bethany followed him quickly.
