“I’m leaving tonight,” Larry said coldly, not even looking at her. “Jaden needs help. I don’t have time for distractions.”

Bethany’s eyes widened. “Distractions? Is that what I am to you now?” Her voice trembled, but there was fire behind it. “I’m coming with you.”

Larry stopped mid-step, finally turning to face her. “No. You’re not.”

But Bethany didn’t back down this time.

“I’m not asking, Larry,” she said firmly, grabbing her jacket. “Jaden is family. And if something’s wrong out there in Montana, I’m not sitting here like I don’t care.”

Larry let out a frustrated sigh, running his hand through his hair. “You don’t understand what you’re walking into.”

“Then MAKE me understand!” she shot back.
