Suitcases were lined up near the front door. Destiny’s birthday decorations were already packed in one of the bags. Brooke sat on the couch scrolling through her phone, but she wasn’t really reading anything. Her mind kept going back to the huge argument earlier that day.

Sharra had tried everything to stop Bethany from joining the Miami trip.

But Larry had refused to listen.

At least… that’s what everyone believed.

Larry walked into the kitchen late that night while everyone else was asleep. The only light in the room came from the refrigerator door he had just opened. He grabbed a bottle of water, but his mind was clearly somewhere else.

He slowly pulled out his phone.

For a few seconds, he stared at the screen.

Then he opened his email and looked at the reservation confirmation for their Miami hotel.
