Brooke stood near the window, her hands slightly trembling as she watched Bethany slowly pack a small bag. No arguments, no shouting—just silence. And somehow, that silence felt heavier than anything they had ever been through.

“Bethany… what’s going on?” Brooke finally asked, her voice barely holding together.

Bethany paused.

For a moment, she didn’t turn around. She just stood there, gripping the edge of the table like she was trying to hold herself together.

“I didn’t want it to be like this,” Bethany whispered.

Brooke’s heart started racing. “Like what? Why are you packing? Where are you going?”

Still no answer.

Bethany zipped the bag shut.

That sound alone sent chills down Brooke’s spine.

“Bethany, talk to me!” Brooke stepped forward, her eyes already filling with tears. “You can’t just leave like this. Not after everything…”

Bethany took a deep breath.

“I’m leaving… for good.”

“I’m not playing,” Bethany said softly.

Tears rolled down Brooke’s cheeks now. “Then WHY? Where are you going?!”

Bethany hesitated.

And then she said something Brooke never expected…

“I’m turning myself in.”

The words hit like a thunderbolt.

Brooke pulled her hands away in shock. “What?! Turning yourself in? For WHAT?!”

Bethany looked down, unable to meet her eyes anymore.

“For everything…” she whispered. “All the lies… all the things I tried to hide… I can’t run from it anymore.”

Brooke shook her head in disbelief. “No… no, there has to be another way! We can fix this—we always fix things!”

Bethany gave a faint, heartbreaking smile.

“Not this time.”

Brooke stepped back, overwhelmed. “So that’s it? You’re just leaving me? Leaving us?”

“I’m not leaving you,” Bethany said, her voice breaking for the first time. “I’m trying to do the right thing… even if it destroys me.”

Silence filled the room again.

But this time, it was unbearable.

Brooke ran forward and hugged her tightly. “Don’t go… please don’t go…”

Bethany closed her eyes, holding Brooke like it was the last time—because it was.

“I have to,” she whispered.

She picked up her bag… walked to the door… and stopped.

The door opened.
