From the hallway, Bethany paused. She watched silently.

“I… I can’t stay here anymore,” Brooke whispered weakly. “Bethany wants to send me to bootcamp. She thinks I’m a problem.”

Larry’s face hardened. “Bootcamp? Bethany, is this true?”

Bethany slowly stepped forward. Her expression wasn’t angry—it was calm. Too calm.

“Yes,” she said firmly. “And I had a reason.”

Brooke immediately began crying louder. “See? She hates me! She just wants to get rid of me!”
