π Anthony Told Shayla to Leave the Apartment with Kai
Chapter One: The Silence Before the Storm
The apartment was eerily quiet that evening.
Anthony sat in the living room, his eyes fixed on the half-empty wine glass on the table. The television was on, but the sound was low, drowned out by the tension filling every corner of the room. Shayla sat across from him, fiddling with her phone, pretending not to notice his distant stare.
But she knew.
She had known all day — ever since the envelope with the DNA results disappeared from her drawer. She hadn't dared to ask Anthony about it. Not yet.
And then, finally, he spoke.
“We need to talk.”
Her heart skipped.
“About what?” she asked, already bracing for the worst.
He looked up. His voice was calm, but his eyes — they were cold. Unforgiving.
“About everything.”
Chapter Two: The Breaking Point
“I gave you every chance to tell me the truth,” Anthony began.
“I stood by you when everyone warned me not to. I believed in you. I defended you. And you… you lied to my face.”
Shayla stood up defensively.
“I didn’t lie— I just— I wasn’t sure. I thought it didn’t matter—”
“It does matter!” Anthony shouted, standing now too. “Kai is not my son, Shayla. You let me raise him. You let me name him. I loved him like my own—”
He choked mid-sentence.
“And all this time, you knew.”
Shayla's voice cracked.
“I was scared. I didn’t want to lose everything. I thought— if I could just hold it together, you’d never have to know.”
“But I do know now,” Anthony said, barely above a whisper.
“And I can't un-know it.”
Chapter Three: The Decision
The room was filled with silence again. Shayla’s eyes glistened with tears, but Anthony didn’t flinch.
“I’m not going to drag this out,” he said.
“You need to leave.”
Shayla’s eyes widened.
“What?”
“You and Kai. You need to go. Today.”
“Anthony… please—he’s just a child. He doesn’t even understand any of this—”
“Exactly,” Anthony cut her off. “And that’s why I’m not fighting you in court. That’s why I’m not calling child services. But I can’t do this anymore. Not with you. Not under my roof.”
“Where would I go?”
“I don’t know. That’s your responsibility now.”
Chapter Four: The Goodbye
Shayla packed slowly, her hands trembling. Every item she folded was a memory. Every picture she placed in the box was a lie she had tried to live with.
Kai stood in the doorway, confused.
“Mommy, are we moving?”
Shayla forced a smile.
“We’re just going to visit someone for a little while, sweetheart.”
Anthony stood back, arms crossed, watching as they made their way to the door.
As Shayla stepped out, she turned around one last time.
“He may not be your son by blood… but he still loves you, Anthony.”
Anthony nodded slowly.
“And I’ll always care about him. But I can’t keep living in a house built on lies.”
And just like that, the door closed.
Epilogue: The Empty Room
Later that night, Anthony walked into Kai’s old room. It was nearly empty now — just a few toys on the floor, a half-drawn picture taped to the wall, and a lingering silence that felt too loud.
He sat on the edge of the small bed.
“Goodbye, buddy,” he whispered, wiping his eyes.
“I hope one day you’ll understand.”
Outside, rain started falling again.
And inside, for the first time in months, Anthony felt the weight of the truth — painful, yes, but finally real.
