Brittany Whispered a Deadly Secret to Amber About Anthony
A Chilling Tale of Friendship, Betrayal, and the Darkness People Hide…
The leaves rustled in the dying light of evening as Brittany and Amber walked along the deserted trail behind Westvale High. The sun had dipped just low enough to cast long shadows across the woods, and a nervous wind whispered through the trees like it carried secrets of its own.
Amber had always thought of Brittany as a bit dramatic, but today she seemed different—tense, pale, and with a strange flicker in her eyes. They hadn’t spoken much all day. Not since that strange, half-smirk Anthony had given Brittany during lunch… and not since Brittany had scribbled a cryptic note in Amber’s notebook:
“Meet me after school. Come alone.”
Now, here they were, under the fading orange sky, and Brittany wasn’t speaking. She just kept walking.
"Britt, what’s going on?" Amber asked, trying to keep her voice steady. "Why did you drag me out here?"
Brittany stopped suddenly. The silence felt heavy. Then she turned around slowly, her face unreadable.
“You have to promise me something,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Promise you won’t tell anyone what I’m about to say.”
Amber frowned. “You’re scaring me.”
“I should scare you,” Brittany said. “Because once I tell you this, everything will change. Forever.”
There was a long pause before she leaned in close. So close Amber could feel her breath.
Then she whispered:
“Anthony killed someone.”
Amber recoiled. “What?! Brittany—what are you talking about?”
Brittany grabbed her arm, eyes wide with something between terror and obsession. “I swear on everything, I’m not lying. It wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t self-defense. It was cold. Planned. Ruthless.”
Amber shook her head. “No. Anthony? No. He’s—he’s just some quiet guy who sits in the back of math class. He volunteers at the animal shelter!”
Brittany nodded. “Exactly. That’s why no one suspects him. But I know what I saw.”
Then, Brittany told her everything.
It happened three weeks ago, the night of the homecoming bonfire. Everyone thought Brittany had left early because she was upset about her ex showing up with someone new. But in truth, she’d gone for a walk to clear her head—and ended up deep in the woods, far from the noise.
That’s when she saw them.
Anthony and another boy—someone she didn’t recognize—arguing near the edge of the cliff by Sycamore Hill. It escalated fast. She remembered Anthony shoving the boy hard. The stranger slipped, stumbled—then Anthony stepped forward and pushed him again.
Hard.
The boy fell.
And then Anthony just stood there. Watching. Calm. As if he were taking in a sunset.
Brittany ran before he saw her. She told no one.
Until now.
Amber stared at her, heart pounding. “Why are you telling me this now?”
“Because,” Brittany said, “I think Anthony knows I saw. He’s been watching me. I see him near my house. My window. My locker. And yesterday… there was a note in my backpack.”
She pulled it out. Amber took it with shaking fingers. The handwriting was clean and sharp:
“Some secrets should stay buried. Like bodies.”
Amber’s mind reeled. “You need to go to the police.”
“I can’t,” Brittany said, eyes wide. “I have no proof. No body. Just my word against his. And if I’m wrong—if he finds out I told anyone…”
Her voice broke.
Amber hugged her friend. “We’ll figure it out. We’ll go together. Tonight.”
But when Amber arrived at Brittany’s house an hour later, the door was ajar. The lights were off.
And Brittany was gone.
On her bed, Amber found only one thing:
A scrap of notebook paper, torn at the edges, with four chilling words in the same sharp handwriting.
“You were warned. Amber.”
