“The Weight of Truth: Is Amber Pregnant by Anthony?”

Amber tells Victor her stomach is fat. Could she be Pregnant by Anthony?

Amber stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. Her hand gently traced the curve of her stomach, which had grown ever so slightly in recent weeks. She let out a small, uncertain sigh, unsure if it was just bloating, stress, or something far more life-changing. She had been distracted for days — sleepless nights, waves of nausea, and emotions spiraling out of control.

Victor had noticed the shift in her. The spark in her eyes had dimmed. Her laughter was forced. He thought it was just the stress from her ongoing divorce with Anthony, but Amber knew there was more behind her uneasiness. She just didn’t know how to say it.

That evening, Victor was seated on the patio, a glass of wine in his hand, scrolling through his emails. The warm breeze rolled across the porch, but Amber’s presence was heavier than the wind. She stepped out slowly, her arms crossed over her hoodie, hiding her expression.

“Victor…” she began, her voice soft but trembling.

He looked up, immediately sensing something wasn’t right. “Yeah, babe?”

Amber sat down beside him, barely able to meet his eyes. “Can I ask you something personal?”

“You know you can.”

She hesitated. “Does my stomach look… different to you?”

Victor blinked, a bit surprised. “Different? What do you mean?”

Amber lifted her hoodie just enough to reveal the faint swell of her lower abdomen. “I mean… I feel like I’ve gained weight, but only here. I’ve been so tired lately. Nauseous sometimes. Moody. I’m never like this.”

Victor’s brow furrowed. “Amber… are you saying what I think you’re saying?”

She nodded slowly. “I might be pregnant.”

Silence blanketed the moment.

Victor set his glass down and leaned back, taking a deep breath. “Is it mine?”

Amber’s eyes welled up. “I haven’t been with you like that, Victor. Not yet. It was… it was that night. When Anthony came over. The night I signed the first set of divorce papers.”

Victor’s heart dropped, but he nodded, composed and quiet. “So you think it’s Anthony’s.”

“I don’t know. I haven’t even taken a test yet,” she admitted, wiping her tears. “I was in denial, hoping it was just stress. But every day I wake up feeling more and more certain something’s happening inside me.”

Victor looked away for a moment, his jaw tightening. “Amber… I care about you. A lot. But if that baby’s Anthony’s… we’re talking about a whole different future here. You’re still tied to him.”

“I know,” she whispered. “And I wouldn’t lie to you. You deserve the truth. That’s why I’m telling you now — before this gets even more complicated.”

He stood, pacing slowly. The silence between them was thick with uncertainty.

“You need to take a test,” Victor said firmly. “Not for me. Not for Anthony. For you. You deserve to know what’s happening. And if it’s his child… you need to decide if you're ready to be connected to him again — for the rest of your life.”

Amber nodded. She knew he was right. Later that night, after Victor had gone home to give her space, she found herself alone in the bathroom. Her hand trembled as she opened the test box, her mind racing with questions.

What if it’s positive?
What if Anthony finds out?
What if Victor walks away?

As the minutes passed, the result began to appear.

Amber sat there in silence, staring at the answer her body had been trying to tell her for weeks.

Two lines.

Positive.

Her world changed with a single glance. And somewhere, across town, Anthony — unaware of the new life possibly growing inside her — was wrestling with his own regrets.

The past was never done with them.
And now… the future had just begun.
