AMBER Said DNA Is the Only Truth – A Tale of Justice and Betrayal

In the quiet town of Willow Creek, the sun had just begun to rise, casting an amber glow over the sleepy streets. It was a place where everyone knew each other, where secrets were whispered but never truly hidden. But for Detective James Carter, this morning brought something far more sinister than the usual small-town gossip.

A frantic call had come in just before dawn. A body had been found in the old Franklin barn, a place abandoned for years. James knew this meant trouble. As he pulled up to the scene, the flashing red and blue lights of the patrol cars illuminated the rusted structure. Officers stood around, their faces grim.

"What do we have?" James asked, stepping out of his car.

Officer Riley, a young but sharp deputy, approached him. "Female victim, early thirties, no ID on her. But here's the strange part—her phone was left unlocked, and she had just sent a text before she died."

James raised an eyebrow. "To who?"

Riley handed him a plastic evidence bag containing the phone. "To a contact named 'AMBER.' The message just says: 'DNA is the only truth.'"

James frowned, the weight of those words settling on him like a storm cloud. He turned toward the barn, where forensic experts were already at work. The victim had been staged carefully, her hands folded, a single drop of blood on her wrist, though there were no visible wounds. The crime scene was eerily clean, almost too perfect.

Back at the station, James ran the number saved under 'AMBER' through their database. No registered contact. He decided to trace the number through their tech division. Within an hour, a hit came back—it was a burner phone, last pinged near an old research facility on the outskirts of town.

The name of the facility sent chills down James’s spine: Genex Laboratories.

Genex had shut down a decade ago, following allegations of illegal genetic experiments. Rumors swirled about human trials, secret projects, and DNA manipulation. But nothing had ever been proven. Could it be connected to this murder?

Determined to find answers, James drove to the abandoned lab. The building was a skeleton of its former self, vines creeping up its walls, windows shattered. Inside, dust clung to forgotten equipment, and faded documents lay scattered on the floor. But then, a flicker of movement—someone was here.

He reached for his gun, creeping forward. A shadow darted past a broken desk. "Stop! Willow Creek PD!" he called out.

A woman emerged from the darkness, hands raised. She was in her late twenties, with piercing green eyes and disheveled brown hair. "You're James Carter, aren't you?" she asked.

James kept his gun steady. "And you are?"

"Amber," she said.

James's mind raced. "You sent that message."

She nodded. "Because it's the only way you'll find the truth."

"About what?"

"About her," Amber said, her voice trembling. "The woman in the barn. She wasn't just murdered. She was erased."

James frowned. "What do you mean?"

Amber took a shaky breath. "Genex experimented on people—illegally. They altered DNA, erased identities, created new ones. The woman you found... she discovered something she wasn't supposed to. And now, they're covering their tracks."

James’s grip on his gun tightened. "Why should I believe you?"

Amber pulled out a small vial from her pocket. "Because this is her DNA sample. Compare it to any official records, and you’ll see—they don’t match. They wiped her history clean."

James hesitated. If what Amber was saying was true, this wasn't just a murder—it was a conspiracy. The only way to prove it was to test the DNA.

Amber stepped closer. "They’ll come for me next. You're the only one who can stop them."

James took the vial, his gut telling him this was only the beginning. DNA was the only truth—but in a world where even that could be rewritten, how could anyone be sure of who they really were?

To be continued…
